On March 11, 2024, the WelcomeCenter Saxony-Anhalt focused on mental health. In the online seminar “Self-Care and Mental Hygiene for Full-Time and Volunteer Staff in Migration Work,” counselors gathered virtually under the guidance of clinical psychologist Anja Weise from Magdeburg. Topics discussed included “empathy burnout” and its associated symptoms, as well as ways to recognize burnout early on and practice self-care through mindfulness. In small groups, participants discussed specific questions in a safe space and shared their experiences.
The seminar was specifically aimed at full-time and volunteer staff in Saxony-Anhalt who work in the field of migration. Counseling and support work in this area comes with many challenges—whether it’s the constant confrontation with clients’ deeply moving stories or the personal emotional investment in their difficult circumstances.
