Counseling in Potentially Stressful Contexts: “Self-Care and Mental Health for Full-Time and Volunteer Staff in Migration Work”
This seminar is specifically aimed at full-time and volunteer staff in Saxony-Anhalt who work in the field of migration. Counseling and support work in this area comes with many challenges—whether it’s the constant confrontation with clients’ harrowing stories or the personal emotional toll of witnessing difficult life circumstances.
For this reason, the WelcomeCenter Saxony-Anhalt is offering an online seminar on this topic on Monday, March 11, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The seminar will be conducted digitally via WebEx.
The seminar’s content will address the issue of personal stress, which can range from difficulties in maintaining personal boundaries to secondary trauma. Especially in the counseling context, where empathy and compassion are of great importance, we place particular emphasis on the mental well-being of counselors. The seminar agenda includes topics related to self-care, with a focus on migration work, among other areas. In addition to a general introduction to the topic, the seminar will address raising awareness of stress risks, reflecting on one’s own attitudes and behaviors, and concrete strategies for the early recognition of stressful situations.
The focus is on resource-building measures and methods of mental hygiene, self-care, and mindfulness. You will have the opportunity to try out these measures directly during the seminar and subsequently integrate them into your daily work routine.
The seminar is designed to be interactive; please feel free to bring personal case studies. Exchange and discussion are expressly encouraged. We look forward to your active participation and to exploring ways to strengthen mental well-being together. The event has a limited number of participants.
Participation in the seminar is free of charge. The registration deadline was February 29, 2024.
