Under the right of residence for opportunities pursuant to Section 104c of the Residence Act (AufenthG), persons in Germany have 18 months to fulfill the requirements for a subsequent residence permit pursuant to Section 25a or Section 25b of the Residence Act. For the latter in particular, oral German language skills at least at A2 level (CEFR) are required.

A new initiative aims to facilitate and support this process: The language proficiency assessment offered by the Landesverband der Volkshochschulen Sachsen-Anhalt e. V. (State Association of Adult Education Centers in Saxony-Anhalt), funded by the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health, and Equality, offers holders of the right of residence for opportunities the opportunity to have their oral language proficiency professionally tested and certified up to level B1.2. This can be used if language skills cannot be proven by other means, such as by completing German vocational training.

The project will run on a trial basis from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024. Interested parties can fill out a registration form and submit copies of their residence permit in accordance with Section 104c of the Residence Act (AufenthG) and their ID card to the State Association of Adult Education Centers in Saxony-Anhalt (Landesverband der Volkshochschulen Sachsen-Anhalt e. V.). After the documents have been checked, they will receive an invitation to take the test.
