In this context, you will have the opportunity to learn about the legal framework, receive up-to-date background information, and exchange ideas with other stakeholders about regional challenges. Introduction to the Legal Framework and Labor Market Access for Refugees
In this module of our training series, we provide an overview of the legal framework and labor market access for refugees. This includes, among other things:
- Topic-specific terminology
- How the asylum process works
- Overview of the various statuses and the corresponding documents
- Residence statuses in detail
- Right of residence regulations under Sections 25a and 25b of the Residence Act
- Family reunification
- Residence regulations and
- Basic principles of the right of residence based on opportunity
Training Tolerance
Tolerance for training purposes is a special type of tolerance that requires the completion of at least two years of training. Since this topic is extensive, the “Tolerance for Training Purposes” module includes the following content in addition to a general introduction:
- The text of the regulation
- Eligibility for training-based temporary residence
- Duration of validity and transitions
- Requirements for training-based temporary residence
- Right of residence for family members
- Application procedure (step-by-step procedure)
- Educational support benefits under a training permit
- Additional grounds for exclusion
- Tolerance for employment
Skilled Worker Immigration Act
The Skilled Immigration Act, which has been in effect in its initial version since 2020, makes it easier for skilled workers with vocational training or an academic degree and individuals with practical professional experience to immigrate to Germany. The first amendments are already taking effect this year and are intended to further simplify the hiring of employees from abroad. The training covers the following topics, among others:
- Skilled Worker Immigration: How the Process Works Under Different Conditions
- Recognition of foreign qualifications
- Shorter processing times for granting a settlement permit to skilled workers
- Accelerated skilled worker procedure
- Changes effective 11/2023 and 03/2024
EU citizens
EU citizens enjoy many freedoms and comprehensive protections: personal, civil, political, economic, and social rights; protection of personal data; protection against discrimination; and freedom of movement without border controls in most EU countries. All EU citizens have the right to enter the member states of the EU, the EEA (EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway), and Switzerland without a visa. EU citizens also have the right to reside and work in other countries with virtually no restrictions and without special permission (see https://www.bmi.bund.de/DE/themen/migration/aufenthaltsrecht/freizuegigkeit-eu-buerger/freizuegigkeit-eu-buerger-node.html).

Opportunity Residence Act
The new law on the Right of Residence for Opportunities went into effect on December 31, 2022. The Right of Residence for Opportunities is a residence permit valid for 18 months. The training session explains in detail the requirements for applying.
