After living abroad for many years, Britta Simon returned to Germany—specifically to the Altmark region—for family reasons. Her goal was to become self-employed, so in 2021 she took a pre-startup course offered by our network partner, IGZ BIC Altmark, to ensure she was fully prepared to launch her business. The spin-off followed shortly thereafter, and Ms. Simon positioned herself on the market as a transformation coach, certified coach, and mentor for stress management and building personal resilience according to HeartMath.
On the recommendation of another participant from the pre-startup course, Ms. Simon contacted our regional advisor, Jana Worreschk. “Especially when someone has just started a business, they often feel lost at first. So it’s good to have someone who knows the region well and can offer encouragement and support,” says Jana Worreschk. Our colleague gave the founder helpful tips on how to network with new people and make important connections in her old hometown. For example, Ms. Simon attended the Business Women’s Breakfast in Magdeburg and also established valuable contacts through social media.
“It’s great that there’s a resource center for newcomers that provides guidance on one’s career and offers appropriate solutions and contacts. For me, it was especially important that Ms. Worreschk steered my professional focus in the right direction and that I was able to expand my network, which was very helpful for starting and growing my business,” says Britta Simon.
It quickly became clear that Ms. Simon wanted to specialize primarily in people in the healthcare professions. On Jana Worreschk’s recommendation, she contacted Ms. Christina Heinze, who is the educational director and principal of the Magdeburg Training Center for Healthcare Professions and has already organized several events in collaboration with the state initiative “Fachkraft im Fokus.” Ms. Simon was thus able to expand her network in a targeted manner and develop specific programs tailored to her target audience in her business plan.
As the consultation continued, Ms. Worreschk raised Ms. Simon’s awareness of the topic of continuing education and referred her to Heiko Wisny, our regional business advisor. Now, the founder is pursuing continuing education in marketing through the Saxony-Anhalt WEITERBILDUNG BETRIEB funding program to market herself and her services as effectively as possible.
